</p> <p>Tafseer Surah al-Baqarah Part 41</p> <p>

Aoozu Billahi as-Samee al-Aleemi minash Shaitanir Rajeem

Bismillah,…, Alhamdulillahi wahdah was salaatu was salaamu ala man la nabiya ba’adah

Rabbish sharah li sadri wa yassirli amri wahlul uqdatam min lisaani yafqahu qauli

As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Pichle dars me hum Surah al-Baqarah ki 17wi ayat ki tafseer me 3 alfaaz ke maane sunn rahe the, aaj ke dars me hum Lafz-e-Noor par tafseel sunenge aur iss me samjhane ka zyada hai.

Tarjuma wa Tafseer

Vs. No. 17 Cont’d…

Unn ki misaal aisi hai, jaise ke ek shakhs ne aag jalayi, phir jab uss aag ne ird-gird ki cheezen, (ya atraaf ke mahol) ko roshan kar diya, to Allah (عز وجل) ne unn ka noor slab kar liya (ya unn ki roshni chheen li), aur unn ko andheron me chhorrh diya ke kuch nahi dekhte.

Humne pichle dars me kaha tha ke, iss ayat me 9 alfaaz hain jo samajhne ke hain; Masaluhum, Istauqada aur Naar ke maane hum sunn chuke hain, aaj hum Azaa’at, Haulahu, Zahaba, Noorihim, Tarakahum, aur Zulumaat.

Ab iss ayat ka saatwa lafz, aur Surah al-Fatiha se parrhne ki tarteeb ka 72wa lafz Noorihim hai.

72. NUURIHIM (Their light) 2:17 ( نُوْرِهِمْ ( ن و ر

Lafz-e-Noorihim ka root ya maddah (ن و ر) hai, jis ka matlab “Unki Roshni” hai.

  • External Noor ya berooni noor aam roshni hai, jis ki wajah se hume material ya physical duniya nazar aati hai, jis ka opposite andhera hai.[1]
  • Aur agar ye roshni wabasta ho jaye garmi ke saath jaisa ke, aag se nakalne wali roshni me hota hai,[2] ya phir sooraj se nikalne wali roshni me hota hai,[3] to usay Ziya kehte hain;
    • Jab Roshni hoti hai to hum asani se chal phir sakte hain lekin andhere me hum nahi chal sakte,
  • Quran apne aap ko Noorum Mubin kehta hai, ek aisi roshni jo saaf saaf raasta dikhane wali hai.[4]
    • Quran ka ye noor ya roshni hume jannat ki taraf jaane walay seedhay raaste ki taraf rahnumayee karti hai, guide karti hai.[5]
    • Aur iss raaste par chal kar Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne hume dikhaya, jinhe Quran Sirajan Muneera ka laqab deta hai, ek aisa Chiragh jo khud jal kar doosron ko roshni deta hai.[6]
    • To, Quran ko Noor kaha gaya hai, yani Quran Roshni hai – Light hai,
    • Science ke zariye hume pata hai ke, light exherts pressure, Roshni dabao daalti hai, science me iss ke kayee examples hain, jo sab se simple example hai, wo comet ki tail jo hoti hai, wo suraj ke opposite direction me hoti hai, phir laser bhi iss ka ek example hai, aur aaj kayee medical treatments laser ke zariye ho rahe hain.
    • Quran me, Surah al-Hashr ki 21wi ayat me Allah (ربُّ الْعِزَّت) Farmate hain ke, Agar HUM ye Quran kisi pahad par nazil kiya hota, to tum uss ko dekhtay ke Allah ke khauf se dab jata aur phatt jata, aur ye batein HUM logon ke liye bayan karte hain takay wo ghaur-o-fikr karein.[7]
    • To ye Quran se saboot hai ke, Roshni dabao daalti hai,
    • Sheikh Saifur Rahman al-Mubarakpuri Sahab, apni kitab ar-Raheeq al-Maktoum me wahi ke silsilay me likhte hain ke, jab kabhi Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) apne oontt par hotay aur wahi ka nuzool shuru hota, to oontt wo wazan bardasht nahi kar pata aur fauran baitth jata.[8]
    • Phir Bukhari, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, an-Nasai ki ahadith, jis me Zaid bin Thabit (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) farmate hain ke, ek waqt aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) wahi ke alfaaz dictate karwa rahe thay, itne me kisi ne sawal kiya to fauran, wahi nazil hona shuru ho gayee aur Zaid (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) farmate hain ke, aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ka payr mere payr par tha, aur aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ka payr itna bhaari ho gaya ke mujhe darr tha ke, mera payr toot na jaye.[9] Aur jab wahi ka nuzool khatam ho gaya to aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ke payr ka wazan kum ho gaya.
    • Ye to iss duniya me, insano aur janwaron ka haal huwa, Quran ke nuzool ke dabao ka. Aur hume iss liye maloom huwa, kyun ke, kaatib-e-wahi, jo Quran ko likh rahe thay, unhone khud mehsoos kiya, warna hume to nahi pata chalta ke, wahi ka nuzool aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) par kitna bhari huwa karta tha.
    • Baaz ahadith me, Amma Aisha (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْها) farmati hain ke, sakht thandak ke Mausam me, jab wahi nazil hoti, to aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ke mathay se paseena nikal ata.[10]
    • Lekin ye Quran aisi kaisi roshni hai, kaisa noor hai ke, noorani makhlooq bhi iss ke wazan se behosh ho jaya karti thi. Sheikh Omar Sulaiman wahi ko samjhate huwe, Abu Dawood ki hadith bayan ki,[11] jis me Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne farmaya ke, jab Allah (ربُّ الْعِزَّت) Wahi bhejne ke liye baat karte hain to, ahle aasmaan, ooper walay aasmaan se ghantti ke bajne ki awaaz suntay hain, jaise ke kisi chattan par se zanjeer kheenchi jati hai aur wo be-hosh ho jaate hain. Wo ussi haal me rehte hain jab tak ke Jibrail unn ke paas na aa jaye. Jab wo unn ke paas aatay hain tab farishton ko hosh aata hai, aur wo kehne lagtay hain, “Aye Jibraeel, tumhare Rabb ne kya kaha? Jibraeel (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَام) farmate hain ke, haq kaha, sach kaha aur farishte kehne lagtay hain, haq, haq.[12]
    • Ye hai Quran ka asar, ye hai uss ki roshni ka asar. Iss Quran ke noor ko, uss ko roshni ko aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne reflect kiya, uss par amal karke. Uss noor ko mukammil taur par implement karke dikhaya. Shayed issi liye, Quran me aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ko Sirajan Muneera kaha gaya hai. Ek aisa chiragh jo khud jal kar doosron ko roshni pahunchata hai.
    • Beshak, Allah (عز و جل) apne noor ki taraf, yani Quran aur Hadith ki taraf hidayat karta hai, jisay wo chahe.[13]
    • Aur jis kisi ko Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) hidayat na kare, to wo phir andheron me aur gumrahi me bhattak’ta rahega.[14]
  • Wo Allah (ربُّ الْعِزَّت) hi hain, jis ne zaahiri aur batini noor banaya, yani Allah is the source of external and internal noor.
    • Surah al-An’am me farmaya ke, “Har tarah ki tareef Allah (عز و جل) ke liye hai, jis ne aasmano aur zameen ko paida kiya aur andheron ko aur roshni banayee…”[15]
    • Ye external roshni ki baat iss ayat me ho rahi hai,
    • Phir Surah an-Nisa me farmaya ke, “Aye logo, tumhare paalne walay malik ki taraf se tumhare paas (roshan) daleel aa chuki hai aur HUM ne tumhari taraf chamakta huwa noor bhej diya hai, nazil kar diya hai.[16]
    • Ye noor batini hai, internal hai aur yahan Quran ki baat ho rahi hai ke Allah ne chamakta huwa noor nazil kar diya.
  • Phir Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) farmate hain ke, WO hi aasmano aur zameen ka noor hain,[17]
  • Aur ye ke, Qiyamat ke din, zameen apne paalne walay Malik yani Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) ke noor se jagmaga utthegi, aur aamaal ki kitab khol kar rakh di jayegi, Anbiya (عَلَيْهِم ٱلسَّلَام) aur gawahi dene walay shaheed hazir kiye jayenge aur unn me insaaf ke sath faisla kiya jayega aur na-insaafi, ya zulm nahi kiya jayega.[18]
  • Balke, Anbiya aur unn par iman laane walon ka mamela to ye hoga ke, Allah (ربُّ الْعِزَّت) unhe Qiyamat walay din ruswa nahi karega, disgrace nahi karega, unn ka noor, unn ke aagay, unn ke dahini taraf yani right side me (roshni karta huwa) chal raha hoga, aur wo keh rahe honge ke, aye hamare paalne walay malik, hamare liye hamara noor, hamari roshni poori kar di jiye, complete kar dijiye aur hume hamare gunahon ki saza se bacha li jiye, beshak aap har cheez par qadir hain.[19]
  • Aur ye kya hi baat hai ke, an-Noor jo hai, wo Allah ke asmau al-husna me ka ek naam hai, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) ke attributes me ka ek attribute hai, aur Allah ka kalam, uss ki kitab,…, Quran, Noorum Mubeen hai aur Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) jin par ye noor nazil huwa, wo Sirajam muneera hain,
    • To Allah bhi noor,
    • Quran bhi noor,
    • Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) bhi noor,
    • aur jo bhi inn teeno roshniyon se hidayat hasil kar liya, yani ke Allah ki itaát aur Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ki itteba karega, to (فَقَدۡ فَازَ فَوۡزًا عَظِيۡمًا‏) wo badi kamiyabi hasil kar lega.[20]

Lafz-e-Noor par jo ahadith ayee hain, unn me;

  • Sahih Muslim ki hadith, Abu Dharr (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) farmate hain ke, unhone Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) se poocha, kya aap ne apne paalne walay malik ko, apne Rabb ko dekha? Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne farmaya ke, wo to Noor hai, main kaise Usay dekh sakta hoon?[21]
    • Tirmidhi ki hadith me, Abu Dharr (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) se kisi ne yehi sawal kiya, to unhone ne jawab diya ke, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne roshni dekhi, noor dekha.[22]
    • Ab Tirmidhi ki hi, ek aur hadith me ata hai ke, Ibn Abbas (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) ne farmaya ke, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne Allah ko do waqt dekha,[23] lekin ye baat Quran ki ayat se aur Amma Aisha ki ahadith se saaf ho jaati hai ke, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne Allah ko nahi dekha, unhone Jibraeel (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَام) ko do waqt unn ki shakal-e-asli me dekha, jis me se ek waqt Meraj ke maukhe par tha,
  • Muslim ki hi ek aur hadith me aya hai ke, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne 5 baatein batayi,
    • Pehli baat – Allah (عز و جل) sotay nahi hain, aur sona Uss ki shaan ke liye munasib nahi hai,
    • Doosri baat – Meezan ke padhlon ko wo jhukata aur utthata hai,
    • Teesri baat – Raat ke aamaal din ke aamaal se pehle aur Din ke aamaal raat ke aamaal se pehle Uss ke saamne pesh kiye jaate hain,
    • Chohti baat – Uss ka parda noor hai, ek aur hadith me ata hai ke, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) noor ke 70,000 pardon ke peechay hain.[24]
    • Paanchwi baat – Agar wo uss parday ko khol de to uss ke chehray ke anwaar (Noor ki jama hai, plural hai anwaar) jahan tak Uss ki nighal pahunchegi, Uss ki makhlooq ko jala daalegenge.[25]
    • To baat samajh me aati hai ke, kyun aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) Allah ko nahi dekhay, Musa (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَام) ne khwahesh ki thi, lekin wo behosh ho gaye aur jis pahad par Allah ne apni tajalli ki, wo pahad reza reza ho gaya.
  • Tirmidhi ki hadith, farmaya Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne ke, Qiyamat walay din Allah (ربُّ الْعِزَّت) farmayenge ke, meri jalalat aur izzat ki khatir, aapas me muhabbat karne walay kahan hai? Unn ke liye noor ke mimbar hain (jis par wo baitthenge) unn par (yani aise logon par) anbiyan aur shuhada bhi rashk karenge aur uss muqaam ki aarzoo karenge.[27]
    • Muslim ki ek hadith me aya hai ke, insaf karne wale Allah ke paas – Rahman ke dayeen taraf, noor ke mimbaron par honge aur Uss ke dono hath daaye hain, aur wo log apne hukum me, apne ahle khana ke aur jo unn ke charge me log hain, ya unn ki ri’ayat ke muamelat me insaf karte hain.[28]
  • Ahmad aur Tirmidhi ki ahadith, farmaya Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne ke, Beshak, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) ne apni makhlooq ko andheray me paida kiya aur apna kuch noor unn par dala. Jin par uss roshni ka kuch hissa pada unhe hidayat mili, lekin jo uss se mahroom rahay, wo gumrah ho gaye. Issi liye main kehta hoon ke, Qalam ke paas, Allah ke ilm me se likhne ke liye kuch baqi nahi hai.[29]
  • Sahih Muslim ki lambi hadith, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) makkah aur madina ke beech me, khum naami jagah par paani ke kinaare, humein khutba diya aur farmaya ke, logo sunn rakho ke, main ek insaan hoon, qareeb hai ke, Allah (ربُّ الْعِزَّت) ka qasid (uss ka bulawa le kar) mere paas aayega aur main labbaik kahoonga (yani uss bulawe ko qabool kar loonga).
    • Main tum me do azeem cheezen chhorrh kar ja raha hoon,
    • Phir farmaya, Mere ahl-e-bait, yani doosri azeem cheez mere ghar walay hain. Main apne ahl-e-bait ke muamele me tumhe Allah yaad dilata hoon, aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne ye teen baar kaha, Main ahl-e-bait ke muamele me Allah (ka khauf) dialata hoon,
    • Zaid bin arqam (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) jo hadith ke rawi hain, unn se poochha gaya ke, aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ke ahl-e-bait kaun hai, kya aap ki azwaaj aap ke ahl-e-bait nahi hain?
    • Zaid (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) ne jawab diya ke, aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ki azwaaj aap ke ahl-e-bait me se hain lekin aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ke khandan ke wo log jin par sadaqa yani zakat dena haram hai, jis me, Ali (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) aur unn ki aulad, Aqeel (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) aur unn ki aulad, Jafar (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) aur unn ki aulad aur Abbas (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) aur unn ki aulad hain.
    • Poochha gaya ke, kya inn logon ko sadaqa (yani ke zakat) nahi di ja sakti, Zaid (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْه) ne farmaya – haan.[30]
    • Ahl-e-Bait ke mutalliq tafseel hum phir kabhi bayan karenge, yahan lafz-e-Noor ke mutalliq, Sahih Muslim ki iss hadith me Allah ke Rasool (صلى الله عليه وسلم) iss Quran ko hidayat aur noor kaha.[31]
  • Muslim ki ye hadith hum pichle dars me bhi sunn chukay hain, jis me Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne farmaya ke, Salat yani Namaz Noor hai, Roshni hai.[32]
    • Ahmad, Darimi aur Baihaqi ki ahadith, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne ek din, Salat ka ya Namaz ka zikr karte huwe farmaya – jis ne namaz ki hifazat aur pabandi ki to wo uss shakhs ke liye, Qiyamat ke din, noor, daleel aur najaat hogi, aur jis ne uss ki hifazat aur pabandi nahi ki to wo uss ke liye noor, daleel aur najaat nahi hogi aur wo Qaroon, Firaun, Haman aur Ubay bin Khalaf ke sath hoga.[33]
  • Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi aur Abu Dawood ki ahadith, farmaya Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ke, Khush khabri suna do, unn logon ko jo masjid ko andhere me chal kar jaate hain.
    • Quran aur Hadith ka yahan coordination dekhiye, Quran me abhi humne suna ke, Qiyamat ke din log dua karenge, Allah (ربُّ الْعِزَّت) se ke hamare noor poora kar dijiye, aur yahan iss hadith me, aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) tarkeeb bata rahe hain, ke Qiyamat ke din noor poora kaise hoga.
  • Abu Dawood ki hadith, jisay Shuaib Arnaut ne hasan kaha hai, Aishah (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْها) farmati hain ke, jab Najjashi ka inteqaal huwa, to hume bataya gaya ke, ek noor uss ki qabar par dekha gaya.[35]
  • Bukhari ki hadith, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne Musalmano, Yahoodiyon aur Eesaiyyon ki misaal dete huwe farmaya ke, inn ki misaal aisi hai jaise kisi shakhs ne mazdooron ko kaam par lagaya, subah se shaam tak kaam karne aur mazdoori lene ke liye;
    • Wo log adha din kaam karne ke baad bolay ke, hume tumhara paisa nahi chahiye, aur jo kuch hum ne kaam kiya hai, wo zaya ho jaane do. Wo shakhs bola ke, kaam ko adhoora matt chhorrho, baqi ka kaam poora karo, aur apni poori ujrat le lo, unhone inkaar kiya aur chale gaye,
    • Phir wo shakhs doosre group ko baqi ka kaam karne ke liye kehta hai, aur jo ujrat, jo muafza pehle group ke liye muqarrar kiya tha, wohi poora dene ka wada karta hai, doosri jamaat, asr ke waqt tak kaam karti hai, aur kehti hai ke, jo kuch hum ne kaam kiya hai, wo zaya ho jaane do aur tum apna paisa apne paas rakho, wo shakhs uss jamat se kehta hai ke, kaam thoda sa hi baqi hai, usay khatam karo aur poora muafza le lo. Unhone inkaar kiya aur chale gaye,
    • Teesri jamaat, ko phir wo shakhs baqi ka kaam karne ke liye muqarrar karta hai, wo kaam ko poora karte hain suraj ghuroob honay tak aur pichli do jamaaton ka muafza unhe mil jata hai.
    • Aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne farmaya ke, ye misaal musalmano ki hai aur jo noor unhe mila hai uss ki hai, jisay unhone khushi se accept kar liya.[36]
    • Yani pehli do jamatein, Yahoodiyon aur Eesaiyyon ki thi.
  • Muslim ki hadith, Farmaya Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne ke, Farishton ko noor se paida kiya gaya hai, jinnaat ko aag se nikalti huwi garmi se paida kiya gaya hai aur Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَام) ko uss cheez se paida kiya gaya jaisa ke tumhe bata diya gaya hai, yani ke, Quran me ata hai ke, garay ki mitti se paida kiya gaya hai.[37]
  • Baihaqi ki hadith, farmaya Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne ke, jo koi juma ke din Surah Kahf parrhay, uss ke liye ek noor, ek roshni chamakne lagti hai aanay walay juma tak.[38]
  • Tirmidhi aur Ibn Majah ki ahadith, Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne mana farmaya, safed baalon ko ukhaadne se aur farmaya ke, ye momin ka noor hai.[39]
    • Abu Dawood ki hadith me, iss ke aagay farmaya ke, jis kisi ka ek safed baal nikal aye, uss ke liye Allah (جل جلاله) ek neki likhte hain, ek gunah maaf karte hain aur ek darjah buland karte hain.[40]
  • Dua’on me aur din aur raat ke azkaar me aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne, noor maanga, barkatein maangi aur hidayat maangi.[41]
    • Muslim ki hadith, Abu Salamah ke inteqaal par aap (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ne ye dua maangi, Aye Allah! Abu Salamah ki maghfirat farma, unn ke darajat ko buland kar unn logon me jo sahih hidayat paye aur unn ki aulad me se ek khalifa ek janasheen ata kar jo peechay ya baqi reh gaye hain. Unhe bhi bakhsh de aur hume bhi. Aye jahano ke paalne walay malik, unn ki qabar ko unn ke liye kushada kar de, spacious kar de, aur uss me noor ata kar.[42]

Yahan Dars rok denge, next Saturday In Sha Allah Surah al-Baqarah ki tafseel agay sunenge.

[9] Narrated Zaid bin Thabit: That the Prophet (ﷺ) dictated to him: “Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home) and those who strive and fight in the Cause of Allah.” Zaid added: Ibn Um Maktum came while the Prophet (ﷺ) was dictating to me and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! By Allah, if I had the power to fight (in Allah’s Cause), I would,” and he was a blind man. So Allah revealed to his Apostle while his thigh was on my thigh, and his thigh became so heavy that I was afraid it might fracture my thigh. Then that state of the Prophet (ﷺ) passed and Allah revealed:– “Except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame etc).

Zaid bin Thabit said “I was beside the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) when the divinely-inspired calmness overtook him and the thigh of the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) fell on my thigh. I did not find any weightier than the thigh of the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ). He then regained his composure and said “Write down. I wrote on a shoulder. Not equal are thise believers who sit (at home), other than those who have a (disabling) hurt, and those who strive in the way of Allaah. When Ibn Umm Makhtum who was blind heard the excellence of the warriors. He stood up and said “Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) how is it for those believers who are unable to fight (in the path of Allaah)? Narrated Sahl bin Sa’d As-Sa’idi: “I saw Marwan bin Al-Hakam sitting in the Masjid, so I went over to him until I sat next to him. He informed us that Zaid bin Thabit informed him, that the Prophet (ﷺ) dictated: ‘Not equal among the believers are those who sit and the Mujahidin in the cause of Allah.’ He said: ‘So Ibn Umm Maktum came and he was dictating to me that he said: “O Messenger of Allah! So Allah revealed to His Messenger (ﷺ) – while his thigh was against my thigh – and it became so heavy that I was worried it was about to fracture my thigh. Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d As-Sa`idi: I saw Marwan bin Al-Hakam sitting in the Mosque. So I came forward and sat by his side. He told us that Zaid bin Thabit had told him that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) had dictated to him the Divine Verse: “Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and lives.’ (4.95) Zaid said, “Ibn-Maktum came to the Prophet (ﷺ) while he was dictating to me that very Verse. On that Ibn Um Maktum said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! If I had power, I would surely take part in Jihad.” He was a blind man. So Allah sent down revelation to His Apostle while his thigh was on mine and it became so heavy for me that I feared that my thigh would be broken. Then that state of the Prophet (ﷺ) was over after Allah revealed “…except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame etc.) (4.95)

[24] Abu Umama said that a Jewish doctor asked the Prophet what places were best, but he did not answer his question, saying, “I shall say nothing till Gabriel comes.” So he remained silent, and when Gabriel came he asked him, but he replied, “The one who is asked knows no more than the one who asks, but I shall ask my Lord.” Later Gabriel said, “Muhammad, I approached my Lord nearer than I have ever come before.” When Muhammad asked about that, he replied, “Between Him and me there were seventy thousand veils of light, and He said that the worst places were their markets and the best their mosques.” (The source of the tradition is not given in the text. The editor of the Damascus edition says it comes rightly from Ibn Hibban from Ibn ‘Umar.)

[25] Abu Musa reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was standing amongst us and he told us five things. He said: Verily the Exalted and Mighty God does not sleep, and it does not befit Him to sleep. He lowers the scale and lifts it. The deeds in the night are taken up to Him before the deeds of the day, and the deeds of the day before the deeds of the night. His veil is the light. In the hadith narrated by Abu Bakr (instead of the word “light” ) it is fire. If he withdraws it (the veil), the splendour of His countenance would consume His creation so far as His sight reaches.

[30] Yazid b. Hayyan reported, I went along with Husain b. Sabra and ‘Umar b. Muslim to Zaid b. Arqam and, as we sat by his side, Husain said to him: Zaid. you have been able to acquire a great virtue that you saw Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) listened to his talk, fought by his side in (different) battles, offered prayer behind me. Zaid, you have in fact earned a great virtue. Zaid, narrate to us what you heard from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ). He said: I have grown old and have almost spent my age and I have forgotten some of the things which I remembered in connection with Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), so accept whatever I narrate to you, and which I do not narrate do not compel me to do that. He then said: One day Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) stood up to deliver sermon at a watering place known as Khumm situated between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, extolled Him and delivered the sermon and. exhorted (us) and said: Now to our purpose. O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger (the angel of death) from my Lord and I, in response to Allah’s call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family. He (Husain) said to Zaid: Who are the members of his household? Aren’t his wives the members of his family? Thereupon he said: His wives are the members of his family (but here) the members of his family are those for whom acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. And he said: Who are they? Thereupon he said: ‘Ali and the offspring of ‘Ali, ‘Aqil and the offspring of ‘Aqil and the offspring of Ja’far and the offspring of ‘Abbas. Husain said: These are those for whom the acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. Zaid said: Yes.

Yazid b. Hayyan reported: We went to him (Zaid b. Arqam) and said to him. You have found goodness (for you had the honour) to live in the company of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and offered prayer behind him, and the rest of the hadith is the same but with this variation of wording that lie said: Behold, for I am leaving amongst you two weighty things, one of which is the Book of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, and that is the rope of Allah. He who holds it fast would be on right guidance and he who abandons it would be in error, and in this (hadith) these words are also found: We said: Who are amongst the members of the household? Aren’t the wives (of the Holy Prophet) included amongst the members of his house hold? Thereupon he said: No, by Allah, a woman lives with a man (as his wife) for a certain period; he then divorces her and she goes back to her parents and to her people; the members of his household include his ownself and his kith and kin (who are related to him by blood) and for him the acceptance of Zakat is prohibited.

[33] ‘Abdallah b. ‘Amr b. al-‘As said that the Prophet mentioned prayer one day saying, “If anyone keeps to it, it will be light, evidence and salvation for him on the day of resurrection; but if anyone does not keep to it, it will not be for him light, evidence, or salvation, and on the day of resurrection he will be associated with Qarun, Pharaoh, Haman,1 and Ubayy b. Khalaf”2

  1. These three are mentioned together in Al-Qur’an, 29:39; 40:24. A longer account is given of Qarun in 28:76 ff. Haman is mentioned also in 28:38. The Old Testament gives the story of Korah (Qarun) in Numbers, Chap. 16, and of Haman in Esther, Chaps, 3 ff.
  2. Ubayy had been an enemy of the Prophet in Mecca. Ubayy had said he would kill him, but the Prophet replied that if God willed he would kill Ubayy. At the battle of Uhud (3 A H.) Ubayy received a scratch, and remembering the Prophet’s words, he felt sure he was going to die. He died at Sarif, about six miles from Mecca, as he was returning home.

[36] Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The example of Muslims, Jews and Christians is like the example of a man who employed laborers to work for him from morning till night for specific wages. They worked till midday and then said, ‘We do not need your money which you have fixed for us and let whatever we have done be annulled.’ The man said to them, ‘Don’t quit the work, but complete the rest of it and take your full wages.’ But they refused and went away. The man employed another batch after them and said to them, ‘Complete the rest of the day and yours will be the wages I had fixed for the first batch.’ So, they worked till the time of `Asr prayer. Then they said, “Let what we have done be annulled and keep the wages you have promised us for yourself.’ The man said to them, ‘Complete the rest of the work, as only a little of the day remains,’ but they refused. Thereafter he employed another batch to work for the rest of the day and they worked for the rest of the day till the sunset, and they received the wages of the two former batches. So, that was the example of those people (Muslims) and the example of this light (guidance) which they have accepted willingly.

Ibn `Abbas reported that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) got up during the night to pray, he used to say: O Allah, to Thee be the praise Thou art the light of the heavens and the earth. To Thee be the praise; Thou art the Supporter of the heavens and the earth. To Thee be the praise; Thou art the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is therein. Thou art the Truth; Thy promise is True, the meeting with Thee is True. Paradise is true, Hell is true, the Hour is true. O Allah, I submit to Thee; affirm my faith in Thee; repose my trust in Thee, and I return to Thee for repentance; by Thy help I have disputed; and to Thee I have come for decision, so forgive me my earlier and later sins, the sins that I committed in secret and openly. Thou art my God. There is no god but Thee.

[42] Umm Salamah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) visited Abu Salamah (May Allah be pleased with him) when his eyes were open soon after he died. He closed them (the eyes) for him and said, “When the soul is taken away, the sight follows it.” Some members of his family began to weep. He (ﷺ) said: “Do not supplicate for yourselves anything but good, for the angels say ‘amin’ to what you say.” Then he said, “O Allah! Forgive Abu Salamah, raise his rank among those who are rightly-guided and grant him a successor from his descendants who remain behind. Grant him pardon and us, too. O Rubb of the worlds. Make his grave spacious for him and give him light in it.” [Muslim]
